Around 1952, Beaulieu began production on the theme of Provence. Some of these canvases of the time suggest a certain shift towards abstraction. As stated in the text of the Vie des Arts in 1984: “Beaulieu never practiced abstract painting in an automatist way. About him, we will write that "if the color begins to inspire him by spots, there is nevertheless in him a clear desire to free it from the framework where the figuration constrains him although the figurative elements are always there. detectable”3.
