The verdant nature painted with so much passion is not the only subject of interest of the painter Marc-Aurèle Fortin. In fact, from the second half of the 1920s, Fortin became interested in and inspired by the growing urbanity of Montreal. It was then that the Views of Hochelaga were created mainly in watercolour. The panorama offered by the painter in his works is exceptional, built vertically and in stepped plans.

This way of doing things is repeated here in the View of Montreal from its favourite belvedere, the Mount Royal. From this perspective, the artist captures the geometric and colourful shapes of the city, while offering a wide panorama of the St. Lawrence River and the Montérégie mountains. This composition offers a panorama similar to the ink work produced between 1930 and 1932, entitled Westmont.
