Following the dissolution of the artistic group El Paso in 1960, Luis Feito's painting evolved. The compositions are simplified and the color palette tightens, but gains in intensity. The works of this period are characterized by the depth of color and the hazy effect that emanates from the compositions. In 1962, Feito introduced a color that will never leave his work: red.
Pursuing perpetual research, Feito draws his inspiration, among other things, from Japanese art during the 1960s and 1970s. The painter explores the relationships between color, material and volumes by superimposing impasto on smooth surfaces.
In 1963, a transition took place in Feito's work. The textured works of the 1950s gradually give way to new compositions, nevertheless following the same chromatic scheme. The work Composition, 1963, testifies to this evolution in which the artist moves from lyrical abstraction to geometric abstraction. The same year, Feito exhibited at the Camille Hébert gallery in Montreal, at the World House Gallery in New York and at the René Metrás gallery in Barcelona.
