Throughout her artistic career, Kittie Bruneau has explored the major currents of modernism. From oil to collage, via engraving, the artist layers on canvas the souvenirs of each of her inner journeys.

Sensitive and dynamic, her works bear witness to tireless creativity in constant transformation. For the work Petit Robot (1963), Kittie Bruneau pushed the concept of figuration to the frontier of abstraction. Geometric figures overlap in a bold and colorful encounter. Although this visual lexicon evokes stability and cohesion, but also recalls the momentary nature of existence. In the early 1960s, as she began her artistic quest, Bruneau exhibited her work at the Galerie Libre de Montréal and won a prestigious grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

At the same time, she shapes a very personal mythology that will be (re) invested throughout her career. Symbolic and seductive, these eclectic themes amaze with the balance between stillness and movement through form and material. This tie-in energizes the compositions and contributes to the singularity of her work.
