The year 1953 marks the marriage of John Little, as well as the very beginning of his career as a painter. It was that year that he devoted himself solely to his art. The painting here, painted in 1953, is one of the very first made by John Little as a professional artist. Used to admiring urban scenes, here John Little offered us on the contrary a majestic countryside landscape. We still find there the pictorial signature specific to John Little. That is to say, architectural correctness, as well as cheerful and lively human activity. This work of impressive size offers us several paintings in one. The landscape of the distant village which then brings us to a friendly game of hockey on the frozen river passing by a wood mill where the loggers are busy. Finally, the return of the inhabitant awaited by his wife on the portico of the Canadian house.
