In this composition, John Little presents a daily urban scene at Clark and Marie-Anne West Streets. In the far right is the Baron Byng High School. Built by Canadian architect John Smith Archibald, Baron Byng High School opens its doors to respond to rising Jewish immigration to Montreal. From 1921 to 1980, the school, located at the corner of St-Zotique and St-Urbain Streets near Clark, mainly accommodates Jewish and Greek immigrants from the popular class.
Throughout his career, John Little layered on canvas works that allow viewers to immerse themselves in their memories. Sensitive and nostalgic, Little uses colors that reflect the atmosphere of snow-covered popular neighborhoods of the past. Attention to detail such as power poles and vintage cars help to make his work a true visual record of the 1960s urban landscape.
