Rue St-Paul, Montréal
John Little portrays with sensitivity and accuracy the urban life of the city of Montreal and Quebec City. Throughout his career, the artist creates views of Montreal where he pays great attention to the details of the buildings and the particularities of the neighborhoods. What makes his works real visual documents testifying of the daily life at the time.
In this work, John Little presents a view of Saint-Paul Street, near Saint-Claude Street, in the heart of Old Montreal. Here, two men are chatting at the tavern of the Auberge du Canada. Behind them, the spire of the bell tower of the chapel Notre-Dame-du-Bon-secours rises in the cloudy sky. The sidewalks buried in snow run along the road where several cars and trucks of goods circulate. The design skills of John Little allow him to faithfully translate the typical atmosphere of this winter day.
