Aquatint is an etching process that consists of covering a metal plate with a layer of protective powder that is more or less dense, then plunging it into an acide basin. It allows, thanks to the use of fine particles of resin sprinkled then heated, to obtain a surface composed of points rather than lines by which one obtains different color tones.
