Yseult Riopelle, Jean Paul Riopelle, Catalogue raisonné, volume 1, Hibou Éditeurs, Montréal, 1999, p. 406, reproduced in color under the reference number 1952.018P.1952

"The real, point still canceled, is irretrievably crumbling in the two landscapes that I evoke here where the subject is erased, where Nature is distorted, where form is deformed to give way to pure writing. This writing d black ink, erratic and yet perfectly mastered, will predominate in Riopelle's watercolor inks between 1946 and the early fifties. "1
