"The real, point still canceled, is irretrievably crumbling in the two landscapes that I evoke here where the subject is erased, where Nature is distorted, where form is deformed to give way to pure writing. This writing d black ink, erratic and yet perfectly mastered, will predominate in Riopelle's watercolor inks between 1946 and the early fifties. "1
