The Goose's Testament (1990-1996)
by Jean Paul Riopelle
Numbered, paper on ''Voirin'' press, 77.5 x 57.5 cm
Book workshop of the Imprimerie nationale de Paris
Testament of the Goose. Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, 1996. In-plano, in sheets, cover with cutouts, publisher's metallic black slipcase. First edition, illustrated with six lithographs by Jean-Paul Riopelle. The texts of Gilbert Érouart. The lithographs were printed on the Voirin press of the Livre workshop
Then installed in a house on Goose Island, Riopelle observes, each year, the thousands of wild geese which wander from the Bering Strait to California. For a few days, the geese stop on the banks of the St. Lawrence. The Testament of the Goose box set represents the completion of the universe created by Jean-Paul Riopelle on the theme of the wounded goose. The collaboration of the novelist Gilbert Érouart made it possible to put words to the painter's vision of the world and to produce a series of lithographs grouped in a collector's box.
