In 1981 , Jean-Paul Riopelle won the Paul-Emile Borduas prize awarded by the Government of Quebec for his contribution to modern painting and its influence abroad. The year 1981 also marks the greatest retrospective of the painter at the Center Georges-Pompidou in Paris.
