“In 1971, Lemieux returned to drawing, which he had not practised so intensely since the 1940s; he draws with graphite pencil, ink pen and felt pen. He also uses oil wash to restore spontaneity and lightness to his pictorial research “- Michèle Grandbois — Jean-Paul Lemieux, sa vie, son oeuvre, page 63.

Guy Robert approached Lemieux's wash drawings in the same way. He will say in his book this: “During the summer of 1972, Lemieux executed a series of wash drawings which brought, in the development of his current theme for fifteen years, a breath of freshness and lightness. The wash technique promotes spontaneity”. Guy Robert will continue: "the washes combine in a skilful equation the intuitive jet and the mastery of stripping, both in the economy of the writing in the range of the palette”. — Guy Robert, Lemieux, Éditions Stanké, page 145.
