The two main foundations of Jean-Paul Lemieux's creation are time and space. Time is often exploited by the nostalgia of a happy childhood, moments spent with the family by the sea.
Drawing on his imagination, Jean-Paul Lemieux turns to himself and undertakes variants of his own works with recurring themes. One of these is the rider, in back view. The painter always seeks to give a direction to being by the position of his mount. The nude is another variant developed by the artist. These subjects are often children, naked and chaste. Here, in the painting titled Le cavalier au bord de mer, he brings together these two key themes of his creation.
Quite simply, this work depicts a boy staring at the stormy horizon, presaging that the end of the day at the beach is approaching. The position of the young rider suspends time and the latter seems to want to ignore the agitation of the dog and the tumults of the sea.
