During the summer of 1936, Jean-Paul Lemieux made a series of landscapes in the Eastern Townships and his style changed somewhat from those made previously "Guy Robert describes the landscapes of the Eastern Townships, in his book Lemieux by Éditions Stanké as follows: he (Lemieux) becomes more sensually attached to vegetation and soil, drawing in part from the aesthetics of the Group of Seven, and akin to what Goodridge Roberts explores on his side and which he will do the foundations of its reputation for the next thirty years. " He was seen by critics as a promising young painter following an exhibition at the Scott Gallery in Montreal in 1937. During this exhibition, he presented a work entitled, Houses in Magog painted at the time of this work here present.
