Highly known for his winter scenes with horses, the painter illustrates the book of the author Louis Frechette Christmas in French Canada in 1900. Also, the landscapes of Frederick Coburn figure on many Christmas cards from the end 1920. In the 1930s and 1940s, modernity and industrialization drastically changed the Quebec landscape. Some artists, like Coburn, are sensitive to these cultural transformations and try to visually document the end of this period. In a letter to the poet Louis Frechette, the painter says he is "more determined than ever to devote [him]self to painting the early history of Canada" 1. Winter Morning is one of the brightly colored works depicting the artist's rural Canada. who made his reputation.
