Clarence Alphonse Gagnon painted this work during his first stay in France from 1904 to 1908. Gagnon likes to paint the places he visits, such as Normandy and Brittany. In 1907, in the same year he painted this little work, Clarence A. Gagnon executed his famous engraving of the Moulin de St-Briac, a coastal town in Brittany. It is possible that this work has been painted there. In 1907, the artist installed his studio at 9, rue Falguière in Paris, very close to the Montparnasse station. This period is known to be one of the most prolific of the artist.
