Galbraith Island is located on Lake Huron and more specifically in the famous Georgian Bay in Ontario. To the west of this island was the cottage of James MacCallum, a close friend of the painter whom he visited regularly. Jackson would go by canoe traveling from one island to another. Jackson was searching for the best place to settled a camp and equipped with his artistic tools, he illustrated the wild beauties of this region.
