Located near Val-des-Monts, Poltimore is a small rural municipality in the Outaouais. On his hikes in villages on the edge of Ottawa, Jackson makes several compositions on the pattern depicting seasonal changes. In the composition Poltimore, Que, 1963, the painter presents a classic countryside landscape with a barn and cows where winter slowly gives way to spring.
The previous year, Jackson moved to 192 Mac Laren Street in Ottawa and regularly made expeditions to work on the design. With the help of his easy-to-carry sketch box, the artist captures, with a nuanced color, the singularity of Quebec landscapes.
