Canadian painter

Gordon Edward Pfeiffer

Gordon Pfeiffer was born in Quebec in 1899. He started painting when he was twelve under the guidance of Quebec art teacher A. Bonham. Later on, he went to Harvard University where he studied chemistry and economics. From 1928 to 1954, Pfeiffer showcased his artworks at the Art Association of Montreal. Although he was a self-taught painter, Pfeiffer received mentorship from Canadian painters like Horatio Walker, André Bieler, Robert Pilot, and René Richard. Pfeiffer also curated many solo and group exhibitions across Canada, and his works are displayed in various public and corporate collections. Corinne Dupuis-Maillet, an artist herself, was instrumental in helping Pfeiffer establish himself in the Montreal artistic community when he relocated to Westmount. One of his earliest patrons was Dr. Max Stern, owner of the Dominion Gallery (1941-2000) in Montreal, who supported Pfeiffer when he began painting landscapes.
