Pablo Ruiz Picasso
(1881 - 1973)
Spanish painter, sculptor and engraver
Pablo Picasso was a Spanish artist who is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Born in Malaga on October 25, 1881, Picasso showed artistic talent from an early age and went on to study in Barcelona and later Paris, where he was introduced to the avant-garde circles of the time. He co-founded the Cubist movement, which revolutionized the way that artists approached form and representation, and is best known for co-inventing the modern art form of collage.
Throughout his long career, Picasso constantly experimented with new styles and techniques, moving from the Blue Period to the Rose Period and later to Cubism. He was also a prolific artist, producing an estimated 50,000 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and ceramics. His works are now housed in some of the world's most prestigious museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Pompidou Center in Paris.
Picasso died on April 8, 1973, in Mougins, France, at the age of 91. His legacy continues to inspire artists around the world and his works remain some of the most recognizable and beloved pieces of modern art.
