Vladimir Horik

Vladimir Horik was born on February 14th, 1939, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He grew up in a family of artists, with both his father and uncle working as painters. Horik showed an early interest in art, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion.

He attended the University of Alberta, where he studied art and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1968. After graduation, he traveled to Europe, where he studied at the Chelsea School of Art in London, England.

In the early years of his career, Horik worked as an illustrator, creating cover art for books and magazines. He also worked in the animation industry, creating background art for animated television shows.

In the 1970s, Horik began to focus more on painting. His early works were influenced by the Pop Art movement, and he created colorful, stylized images of everyday objects, such as chairs and telephones. He also painted landscapes and cityscapes, often using bright, bold colors and loose, expressive brushstrokes.

As his career progressed, Horik's style evolved to become more abstract and expressive. He experimented with different media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media, and explored a wide range of subjects, from figurative to abstract.

Horik's paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums across Canada and internationally, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has also received numerous awards and honors, including the Alberta Culture Award in 1985 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

Today, Horik continues to paint and create art from his studio in Edmonton. His work remains highly sought-after by collectors and art enthusiasts, and he is considered one of Canada's most accomplished and influential painters.
