Canadian Sculptor artist, Founding member of the Quebec's Sculptors Association, Canada Order Member

Yves Trudeau
Yves Trudeau was a Quebec sculptor born in Montreal in 1930 and died in 2017. After studying at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, he began his career in the 1950s, specializing first in bronze sculpture before exploring other materials such as iron and wood. In 1960, he founded the Association des sculpteurs du Québec, later the Conseil de la sculpture du Québec. Trudeau was known for his social and artistic commitment, playing a crucial role in the creation of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal.

During his career, he won art competitions in Quebec and exhibited his works across Canada, the United States and Europe. His abstract sculptures were often marked by symbolic and geometric concerns, inviting introspection rather than simple figurative reflection.

Trudeau left an important artistic legacy, with many works exhibited in public and private collections in Quebec and abroad. Among his most remarkable achievements are the mechanized sculpture Phare du Cosmos, erected at Expo 67 and moved since on Île Sainte-Hélène, and the relief Relief, negative positive, present in the Montreal metro at Côte-Vertu station. In addition to his artistic work, Trudeau taught at UQÀM and was honoured as a member of the Order of Canada and the Royal Academy of Arts of Canada.
