Paul Tex Lecor

Paul Tex Lecor was a Quebec painter born in Saint-Michel-de-Wentworth in 1933. As a painter and songwriter, he gained public recognition in the 1960s for his hit songs. By that time, he had already completed his studies at the École des Beaux-arts de Montréal, where he worked alongside other renowned artists such as Armand Vaillancourt.

In the late 1970s, Paul Tex Lecor completely abandoned music to focus on his television and artistic career. He is best known for his Quebec landscapes and humorous tavern scenes. An accomplished painter, he founded the Institut d'art figuratif du Québec with other artists to promote Quebec art beyond the province's borders.

His works are rooted in the landscape tradition, initially strongly inspired by master Marc-Aurèle Fortin. However, Tex Lecor developed his own distinctive style, characterized by the use of bright and vivid colors.

In addition to his artistic talents, Paul Tex Lecor was a bush pilot. At the controls of his plane, he traveled across the vast regions of Quebec. His works reflect his deep respect for the wildlife, nature, and various communities inhabiting these territories.

Paul Tex Lecor passed away on September 9, 2017, at the age of 84.
